PEACE EDUCATION & RESEARCH

UNITING COMMUNITIES FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE

The Peace Education and Research Program is a comprehensive initiative dedicated to fostering understanding, empathy, and constructive dialogue among diverse communities.

By integrating interdisciplinary research, experiential learning, and community engagement, the program aims to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate and resolve conflicts peacefully.

Through innovative curricula, workshops, and collaborative projects, participants explore the root causes of conflict, study effective conflict resolution strategies, and develop practical tools for promoting social justice and reconciliation. Ultimately, the program seeks to build a more harmonious society by empowering individuals to become proactive agents of positive change.

The project was a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Education and UNICEF Kenya and DIPAD. The goal of the project was to involve children and youth from all the 47 counties in Kenya to participate in an Education for Peace and Non Violence campaign during the run up to the general elections in 2013.

The outcome was a nationwide peaceful and nonviolent campaign launched to generate constructive engagement and linkages among children, youth, the national and political leadership, and various communities in Kenya.
The programme provided an avenue for a peaceful legacy and transition passed on from one generation to another using the Peace Torch as a rallying symbol of national unity and friendship among Kenyans. A total of twenty one “peace and non violence zones” were created and designated in schools as centres of non-violence and awareness on the negative impacts of violence.
