YOUTH PROGRAMS

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT FOR CHANGE

This is a transformative leadership program designed specifically for vulnerable and systemically marginalized youth

It focuses on both psychosocial trauma awareness and sustainable problem-solving practices. This program provides a safe and supportive environment where participants, mostly youth, can explore their experiences and emotions, guided by trained professionals skilled in trauma-informed programming. Through interactive workshops and group discussions, youth develop resilience and self-awareness while learning practical leadership skills. The initiative integrates sustainable problem-solving approaches, teaching participants to address community challenges with innovative, environmentally responsible solutions. By combining emotional support with practical skills, the program empowers young individuals to overcome adversity and become proactive leaders in their communities.

The project promoted learning and leadership about trauma, resilience and restorative justice among passionate, influential youth leaders across diverse sectors working to prevent and recover from violence, promote justice

and socioeconomic development among the youths.

DIPAD partnered with The Legend Kenya CBO to reach out to other youths in Kasarani Sub County who were facing the same challenges for them to experience healing and transformation.

The project involved:

  1. Hosting trauma awareness workshops and healing sessions; This programme addressed the psychosocial needs of the youth through a four day trauma awareness and resilience learning retreat and it benefitted ninety two (92) participants that went through a healing and recovery process.

  2. Support and linkage to income generating opportunities. The project supported income generation activities for youths through seed funding, application for affirmative action funds and linkage to employment opportunities.

  3. Improve understanding, transformation and good relationship among youths and national security service personnel; The project provided the youth with safe spaces to surrender weapons and to renounce criminal activities without being victimised by the security forces, which afforded them an opportunity to reform through rehabilitation and linkage to skills training to become responsible and productive citizens. The process was carried out in collaboration with the security personnel where reformed youths were successfully removed from the wanted list of violent criminals.
